| On 19th to 21st March 2010, Sekretariat Rakan Muda Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (SRMUTP) has organized UTP Open Tennis Tournament 2010. The objective of this event is to identify new sports talent in tennis to be developed into player of higher calibre, also to improve the intrapersonal and interpersonal skills of students who organized this event. With participants from all over Malaysia, this soft skill is crucial in order to handle the event.
In this tournament, there are four categories offered, which are men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles and women’s doubles. Women’s doubles was held despite having only 5 participating pairs, which showed the eagerness of the participants to play in this tournament. The officials balls for this tournament is Dunlop Fort Elite.
This year, UTP Open Tennis Tournament 2010 was held in two different places, namely UTP and UiTM Seri Iskandar Sports Complex. At 8.30am, all players gathered at UTP tennis courts, where the players that scheduled to play in UiTM Seri Iskandar tennis courts would be transported by UTP shuttle service.
On the first day of the tournament, we started the match for men singles preliminaries. The format used for the tournament is knockout format except for women doubles, in which round robin was used. On second day of the tournament, we started match for men doubles preliminaries. The matches continue till 3 pm, where women doubles categories started. The matches continue smoothly without any problem. For the last day of tournament, the matches scheduled were semi-final and final round for men singles, women singles, and men doubles whereas women doubles still continue their match where the pair with highest point wins.
The tournament ended at 4.00pm, with the closing ceremony accompanied by photo session with all players. We would like to express a tonne of appreciation to UTP co curriculum unit, without their support we would never been able to handle this tournament. We also would like to give our special thanks to Mr. Idham, representative from Student Support Services who officiated the closing ceremony of UTP Open Tennis Tournament 2010. Hopefully, this event will be even more successful in the future. |

UTP Open Tennis Tournament 2010
UTP Soccer League 2010

UTP Soccer League 2010 is an annual event hosted by Rakan Kecergasan SRMUTP in collaboration with Co-curriculum unit UTP. The objective of this tournament is to boost up sport spirit within students and staffs. With such tournament, we can find the best team and highlight few talented players in football arena regardless of local and foreign team. Besides that, this is also of the event that provides a platform for UTP students to showcase their hidden talents. This is parallel with UTP’s mission which is to create well-rounded student, in both academics and non-academics activities.
For this year, there are twenty teams took part in UTP Soccer League 2010. This tournament consists of four groups and five teams per group. Four foreign student group, one staff group and fifteen local student groups. On the 11th February 2010, we had run draw lot ceremony. During this ceremony all teams’ manager, coach and captain came to determine their place in grouping stage. This ceremony was officiated by Mr. Nazri B. Abdul Karim, Senior Executive Co-curiculum unit (Sport and Recreation). The objective of the Drawing Lots Ceremony is to inform the manager of each group about the rules and regulation that have been assigned by the management team.
Since, there are 5 teams inside each group so that there will be approximately 40 match before the quarter final. Quarter Final started on the 16th of April and the teams that qualified to enter the quarter final are Group A; Gen 06 and Diao, Group B; Azzuri and Ace, Group C; Nissa and Galacticos, Group D; Croconile and Facebook.
Final match on the 28th of April 2010 between Facebook FC and Azzuri. Azzuri won against Facebook and make them the champion for the fifth time. The program also received a positive feedback from the participants and also the committee. Lastly, we would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone that involved, especially Mr. Badarolzaman bin Ramli and Mr. Nazri bin Abdul Karim for their endless support in ensuring the success of the program

UTP Basketball League 2010
For this year Rakan Kecergasan SRMUTP in collaboration with Co-curriculum unit UTP hosted UTP Basketball League. This is the first time such event held in UTP. With the theme “The Spirit of Sport”, we inspire the students to involve in basketball. This tournament organized based on Rules and Regulations of Law International Basketball as determined by FIBA. This is a great opportunity for UTP students to have “first-hand” experience in managing an event of this magnitude where their “soft-skills” such as management, communication and leadership can be enhanced. It is our hope that more talented players will be discovered, and be encouraged to take their game to the next level. There are six teams took part in UTP Basketball League for this year, consist of local, international student and also UTP staff. On the 24th February 2010, drawing ceremony was conducted to determine each team place in the group and brief each manager about the rules and regulations. This ceremony was attended by Mr. Nazri B. Abdul Karim, Senior Executive Co-curiculum unit (Sport and Recreation) and the team managers. All the six teams were placed in one group and the top two will move to the final. There were 16 matches for this tournament including final match. The grouping ended on 19th April 2010 and the two teams that moved to the final were PHENOMS and EDGE 2.0. The final match was on 29th April 2010. On that night, EDGE 2.0 won against PHENOMS thus entitled champion for the 1st UTP Basketball League. Last but not least, we would like to express our greatest attitude to everyone who involved in this event especially Mr. Badarolzaman bin Ramli and Mr. Nazri bin Abdul Karim for their help and support throughout this event.
Rakan Muda Wawasan Desa IPT
On 5-8 June 2010, SRMUTP has organized a program called Rakan Muda Wawasan Desa IPT Perak which took place at Kampung Felda Lawin, Selatan Gerik. The objective of this programme is to build leadership values among IPT students especially in helping the government strengthen the integration spirit among people surroundings. There are 40 students from Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS that was selected for this program. Each of them were divided into their respective adopt parents. All activities in this program consist of both participations which are from UTP students and the villagers. This program had their closing ceremony on 7th June 2010 which started at 9 pm.
